Race Across the World

Race Across the World is back for a new series! Five more duos take on the challenge of a lifetime as they compete to travel from the Great Wall of China to the southernmost tip of India. With just over £1,000 per person and no smartphones, the task facing them could seem daunting. However, over the next nine weeks, the teams explore three fascinating, dazzling and intriguing countries.

Starting at the iconic Great Wall north of Beijing, they make their way through the world's most populous country, uncovering the sights of the capital and Shanghai. Heading into Nepal, they encounter a mountainous country boasting eight of the world's 10 tallest peaks. As one of our favourite countries, we're excited to see the contestants discover the wonders of India on their way to the pilgrimage site of Kanniyakumari.

Last year, retired husband-and-wife duo Stephen and Viv won the hearts and minds of viewers as they embraced the challenge, visiting many amazing destinations enroute. Tune into BBC1 on Wednesdays at 9pm to see who will follow in their footsteps.

China

The world's longest established civilisation possesses a wealth of treasures to explore. Gaze upon manmade wonders including the Great Wall of China, Beijing's Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army of Xi'an, the eastern end of the Silk Road. Elsewhere, cruise along the verdant gorges of the Yangtze and be charmed by pandas in Chengdu.

Nepal

As a mecca for mountain climbers high up in the Himalayas, Nepal evokes images of snow-capped peaks. Delve deeper into this fascinating country and discover golden temples with incense filling the air, iconic wildlife wandering through the jungles of Chitwan National Park - and marvel at a sunrise over the awe-inspiring Annapurna range.

India

India evokes kaleidoscopic images of palaces, vibrant cities and colourful markets. Uncover British colonial history in the Himalayan foothill town of Shimla, be dazzled by Agra's imperious Taj Mahal, and marvel at majestic tigers. Further south, cruise Kerala's scenic backwaters and soak up the scents of fragrant spice plantations.

“This was a really expensive itinerary and we truly experienced India and Nepal in all their glory. We maybe should have gone in Oct/Nov as the skies over the Himalayas are more likely to be clear but that’s not a fault of the tour itself.
